Are we getting any closer?

With the recent approval of Aduhelm (aducanumab), all be it with some level of controversy, can we feel any better about a pending break through based on discoveries made during the development of the drug. It appears that the science is pretty well settled on the or at least a major component of the disease is related to amyloid beta plaque build up or present’s in the brain. What is un clear is the long term benefit of the drug and at what point is the drug rendered ineffective due to the amount of plaque. While that issue will take time to define at least there is now some level of hope. Moving forward I’m going to try and keep up with and further understand the efficacy of the drug and what is the specific criteria for administering the drug. It obviously will not help my mother at this point as I fear she is in such an advanced stage of the disease that there is probably more plaque already in her brain, that limiting any additional accumulation is moot. More to follow but there appears to be new hope!!!
